Oba Of Lagos Does Not Speak For Us – APC

he All Progressives Congress (APC) has condemned the comments of the Oba of Lagos, which has been described as a threat to Igbos in Lagos, saying “the Oba does not speak for the APC”.
The Oba of Lagos, Rilwan Akiolu, had in a speech advised the Igbos in Lagos to vote for the governorship candidate he supports, Mr Akinwunmi Ambode, stressing that anyone that goes against his wish will “perish in the water”, apparently referring to the Lagos Lagoon.
A day after, the comments went viral on the social media, attracting diverse comments.
The APC on Tuesday explained that the party had not in any way engaged in hate speech, emphasising that “Lagos is a special state. It has accounted for its diversity in its cabinet. It has never been an issue till now”.
On its twitter handle, the party said: “Bad is bad, irrespective of where it comes from. We highly condemn the comments made by the highly respected Oba of Lagos in strong terms.
“In the 16 years that the party has governed Lagos, we have never heard of ethnicity as we have had in this gubernatorial elections.
“Since 99, the Lagos State Government has appointed Commissioners from various parts of Nigeria. It understands diversity is a blessing”.
The royal father had in a statement tried to clear the air on the issue, and restated his commitment to ensuring the peaceful coexistence of all residents of Lagos State irrespective of tribe, religion or political persuasion.

South Africa Detains Teenager Trying To Join Islamic State

South African Government has detained a teenager who was travelling to join the Islamic State (IS).
The country’s State Security ministry said it was the country’s first known arrest linked to the militant group. The ministry noted that it was investigating whether Islamic State had a recruitment network in South Africa.
It said the 15-year-old girl was stopped at Cape Town airport on Sunday, after evidence was found in her bedroom indicating she had been in contact with Islamic State recruiters.
Minister of State Security, David Mahlobo, in The Star newspaper further confirmed that the teenager was trying to leave, with a plan to join the IS.
“We can confirm that she was planning to leave the country with the intention of joining IS, and had been actively engaged with social media networks.
“An investigation is under way as to how far this network goes, whether there is a cell in the country. We cannot allow South Africa to be used as recruitment space,” he said.
However, thousands of people from over 80 nations, including Britain, China, United States of America, and others have joined the ranks of Islamic State and other militant groups in Syria and Iraq over the past few months.
Islamic State seized large swathes of land in Iraq and Syria last June, including territory close to the Turkish border. A U.S.-led coalition has launched air strikes to try and push the Sunni militant group back.

Yero stops Southern Kaduna Chiefs from meeting Osinbajo

ngry Kaduna state governor, Alhaji Mukhtar Ramalan Yero on Tuesday morning stopped a meeting between Southern Kaduna top traditional rulers and in-coming Vice President Yemi Osinbajo in the state.
The Director General of Kaduna State APC Campaign Council, Mr. Ben Kure disclosed this in a statement sent to newsmen in Kaduna.
Osibanjo was in Kafanchan to meet critical stakeholders in the area that includes traditional rulers, Christian leaders, academic, youth and women leaders ahead of Saturday’s governorship election.
The over 20 traditional rulers drawn from eight local government areas were on their way to palace of Chief of Kagoro, venue of the meeting, when they received the governor’s instruction.
Some chiefs were already in the vicinity when they received signals warning them against meeting with Osinbajo.
Kure said “The programme was to first meet traditional rulers before church leaders, and we have notified them and they were ready to receive our in-coming Vice President. The meeting was to pay homage and intimate them of what the in-coming Muhammadu Buhari’s government have in stock for Nigerians irrespective religion, ethnicity, region or political interests.
“To our suprise, we received a message that the governor has stopped the meeting and cautioned them to return to their domains. The monarchs complied with the warning, aborted the meeting and proceeded to their palaces.
“The same governor three weeks back stopped the President-elect from holding a campaign at Murtala Square Kaduna. And he is now trying to embarrass his Vice President.
“Are the people of Kaduna state and their traditional rulers slaves of the governor? It is quite unfortunate that Kaduna state is now under an individual who is above the law and ruling with impunity.
“He should know that the people of Kaduna state are free people with the right of free association and choice. He will not force people to vote for him, it is a democracy and the voice of the people must be heard. “

Beauty truly comes in all sizes and that’s what plus size lingerie retailer Lane Bryant has taught us!
On Monday, the plus size retailer  introduced the #ImNoAngel initiative to celebrate women of all shapes and sizes. This was in response to Victoria Secret’s provocative “perfect body” campaign in November 2014.
The black and white campaign was shot by Cass Bird and featured full-figured models including Sports Illustrated swimsuit issue superstar Ashley Graham, Marquita Pring, Candice Huffine, Victoria Lee, Justine Legault and Elly Mayday, who posed in pieces from the brand’s Cacique lingerie collection.
In a statement, Lane Bryant CEO and President Linda Heasley said:
“Our #ImNoAngel campaign is designed to empower ALL women to love every part of herself’ I’m No Angel, which debuted today and aims to prove that ‘all women are sexy’ regardless of society’s traditional or stereotypical views on beauty”

Lane Bryant isn’t the only company to come out against Victoria’s Secrets campaigns. UK lingerie brand Curvy Kate is also attempting to shake up the image of plus-size women. The company hosted a competition to find its new face, which kicked off in January 2015. The brand recreated the Victoria’s Secret campaign with a group of plus-size women in nude undergarments.

Pat Utomi has come out to defend the Oba of Lagos on his alleged threat to life of Igbos in Lagos. The renowned political economist told Nigerians on Twitter that if they knew the Oba they would have known he only made the statement out of jest and never meant it.
Some young Nigerians didn’t however find Utomi’s statement funny as some said they were highly disappointed he could take the side of the Oba at this time they need him most. I also heard a prominent Ibo man has led a protest to the Oba’s palace this morning. See Mr. Utomi’s tweets after the cut.
